On location

Getting the setting right can be a pleasure, especially when it gives you an excuse to visit some rather fine locations. Take Fountains Abbey, for example. Towards the end of the novel Jack returns, briefly and for the last time, to his native county. He spends his final night in Yorkshire sleeping rough, in Fountains Abbey. But he’s not alone…
